Being able to see in the dark without the benefit of spells or torches is a godsend no other race can beat. In the early game, it can even be more damaging to use your claws than to use a sword, and you can even go the entire game never touching a blade.īut easily the most important factor in being at the top of the racial profile is Night Eye. Khajiit also have claws, which allow them to completely eschew melee weapons entirely in favor of just batting your opponent with your paws. Sneak in particular starts at 25, allowing you to do some nefarious deeds, but also effectively sneak attack with your bow for additional damage. Khajiit begin the game as consummate assassins, getting a bonus to Sneak, Lockpicking, Pickpocket, One-Handed, Archery, and Alchemy. All these boons combined put Argonians at number two on our list.īefore you start your accusations of furry, let’s look at the facts. They’re not as powerful as the Khajiit, but the blunt claws of the lizard people still do a noticeable bonus to their unarmed strikes. Skills are not as great for the Argonian, giving a mixed back of Light Armor, Pickpocket, Restoration, Sneak, and Alteration, but above all you get 25 in Lockpicking, which allows you to open some early game chests you otherwise would have some difficulty with.Īrgonians also have a hidden bonus to their unarmed damage. For 60 seconds you regenerate health like you’re quaffing potions by the gallon, allowing you to tank almost anything. Resist Disease is also cool for keeping the pharmacy bills to a minimum, but the real showstopper is Histskin. I know there aren’t too many underwater sections in Skyrim, but for the few that pop up it’s super useful. I dunno about you, but I think being a giant talking lizard is pretty cool. Here’s every race you can play in Skyrim, ranked.

My point is, there’s a best and there’s a worst race in Skyrim, and we’re here to find out which is which.

So you might as well pick one that’s useful, otherwise you’re just shooting yourself in the knee with an arrow. And while you can pick up new skills and new spells along the way, those racial powers are with you till the very end, completely unalterable. That’s because in Skyrim being of a different race means a lot more than merely having a different colored skin - it affects your starting skills, your starting spells, and even what racial powers you’ll be going the rest of the game with. Depending on how I wanted my game to go, I’d usually stick with one or two that were simply better, and the rest were essentially ignored. I know, I know, but it’s true - there’s just a few different races in Skyrim that I never even bothered to consider trying in my various playthroughs.

And I know this is going to sound horribly politically incorrect, but unlike the real world, all those different races are not created equal. Skyrim is a diverse place, filled with many different kinds of people.
